The Swell Season - Low Rising
Directed by Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam
This song is off The Swell Season’s new album, Strict Joy which came out October 27, 2009.
The Swell Season is Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. They co-starred together in the 2007 movie Once, which was written and directed by John Carney. Hansard and Irglova composed and performed all of the music for the film. Marketa Irglova’s song, Falling Slowly, won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and the soundtrack recieved a Grammy nod. After the release of the movie they worked on and later released, Strict Joy.
Rolling Stone gave the album 3.5 out of 5 stars saying, ” On Strict Joy, the duo deliver with their most dynamic set yet, with hot Irish soul segueing into energetic folk rock and dream-pop-touched balladry.”
Pitchfork gave the album a 6.5 out of 10 saying, “Which all goes to show the power of a prescribed narrative to trump the natural progression of a real life, though in the case of the Swell Season Hansard and Irglova have made it increasingly difficult to separate fact from fiction…It is complicated, however, considering this new collection of songs of romance gone wrong and right may in fact be a musical document of an actual break-up. Or, depending on the provenance of each track, a break-up that already happened.”
