Where have I been?  I ask myself this because this album came out in 1998. Just about 12 years ago.  All this time has past and it wasn’t until a few months ago that I listened to it for the first time, the word amazing comes to mind. Pitchfork ranked it #4 on their Top 100 albums of the 1990’s (Radiohead’s OK Computer was #1, in case you were wondering).

I had heard of Neutral Milk Hotel but I never really gave them a chance. I would see their name somewhere, or someone posted one of their songs, but I guess at the time I just didn’t really care to listen. I like to think that all those times I passed over it, I just wasn’t ready to appreciate them. I know that in 1998, when this album came out, I would have hated it. But back then I was in 8^th grade and my idea of a good song was, well, it was embarrassing. So I needed this time. These 12 years of my musical taste changing and evolving. Then one day, I was ready and I listened. And I’m very glad that day came because this album is brilliant. So listen to this song, maybe now is your time to appreciate it.
